Weather is unpredictable like everything in the Pantanal, but the rhythm of the 4 seasons is similar to the rest of Brazil. Summer with rain, autumn with milder temperatures, in winter nights can be quite cold and the days cool (20 °C), spring is very hot and dry, with hot winds in the middle of the day. June, July and August are the cooler months, October is the hottest and driest month. The peak of the flood is between April and June.

There is a healthy jaguar population here, especially along the rio Negro, but wild and not accostumed to boats, since our river has very low traffic. Sightings are not guaranteed, but if you are lucky, the sighting will be all the more special!

Giant otters and neotropical otters can be seen almost all year long. During the wet season they tend to stay in water bodies hidden in the riparian forest, so chances increase in the drier months, when the level of the river goes down, their dens emerge and they tend to stay more in the river.

All year long, the Pantanal is a birdwatcher’s paradise! When waters recede, from April to July, it’s the time for nest building and searching for partners. Hyacinth Macaws and other birds that mate for life can be seen in big flocks socializing. At the peak of the dry season, from August to November, we can observe the different strategies that parents use to raise their chicks. During the dry season sometimes we have the privilege to observe the agglomeration of hundreds of birds at a drying out water body, feeding frenetically on the dying fish. Between July and October different species of migratory birds can be observed.

The subregion of Nhecolandia where we are is a scenic region, with a mosaic of freshwater and salt lakes, open grasslands, forest, river and riparian forests, beautiful the whole year long. In spring and summer you have spectacular skies with dramatic clouds, occasional storms and lush and verdant vegetation. With the arrival of the first cold fronts the pink trumpet trees transform the landscape into an apotheosis of color. In winter the trees loose partially their leaves, revealing wildlife: it’s the best moment for seeing mammals like the giant anteater, thanks to the cooler temperatures.

It is ideal to stay on the farm for at least 4 nights or more, since there is a lot to see and to do, especially if you enjoy finding out more about the mysteries and beauties of nature.

We don’t recommend trying to come with your own or rented vehicle. What may look like a detailed road on Google Maps, is not. The journey involves large amounts of off-roading, mud, and lakes – there is no phone signal or internet on the way, if anything happens you won’t be able to search for help. Being transferred by road by an experienced driver is an adventure in itself!

Our lodge is family friendly, we accept kids of all ages, but we believe that kids older than 6 will have the best experience. They will have the time of their life riding horses, fishing, swimming in the dark waters of the rio Negro and discovering the secrets of nature through the tracks of animals.

A Yellow Fever vaccination is required for Brazil, especially to re-enter your country of origin or other South American countries you may visit after Brazil. There is no malaria at all in our area, therefore you will not need to take malaria prophylaxes. The ticks here don't carry any serious diseases and there's no Dengue/Chikungunya or Zica present in the Pantanal. Please bring along your own medicine in case you have specific needs.

In our bathrooms we provide soap but no shampoo or conditioner.

There is no phone signal on the farm. There is Wifi in the rooms and common areas.
